Hi ,
Was an active member for quite a while. Gave away all my vaping gear apart from two billet box mods. A 2015 and 2017.
I've dusted them off. Bought some eLiquid from old Old faithful halo.
What are people running in their BB? I've got a box of 510 cartomizers. Should I look at something else ?
I've been on nic gum for the past few years..and need to get off it. So back to vaping ..thanks for the help.
I noticed since I gave vaping away reos mods has closed. And nic salts are now an option..how quickly things change .

The Porch for Older Folks is dedicated to Txtumbleweed, Randal Fortenbury. He started the ball rolling and helped so many of us when we first started our vaping journey. He offered us encouragement, shared his knowledge and told us great personal stories ranging from riding the rails as a kid, working as a lineman, lumberjack and fishing the cold waters of the Bering Straits.
Randall (Tex) has since passed on and we are honored to continue the Older Folks and Vaping Front Porch in his memory.
The mods have asked us to stay on topic about vaping in this thread. Please adhere to this guideline.
Feel invited to join us in the lounge, on our Back Porch, where we can chat about vaping and any other ‘topic of the day’ that meets your fancy.

Please, don’t be fooled by the old folks in the title. The range of vaping experience and gear spans a wide gap. We’ve got folks content with basic setups using carto tanks and we’ve got folks using temp control mods and the latest RDA/RBAs.
So if you’re just starting out or your more experienced this is the place to be for us older folks. You got a question - we’ve got an answer or three. (And we good at spending other people’s money - so be forewarned). So pull up a rocker and make yourself at home.
And - oh, oh, oh - there’s no age limited or checking done here. Most of us can’t see good enough to read your legal id anyway. The only age criteria is that today your a day older than yesterday.
I going to ‘prime the porch’ with a few posts from the early days. It’s fun to look back just a few years and see not only where we where but were the state of vaping was w/ respect to equipment.
Most people justify vaping to smoking because it's healthier, and to some, cheaper, but what is it that you enjoy most out of vaping? The nic fix, the shiny mech mods, the high powered box mods, the clouds?
Personally, I love the flavor of vaping the most, along with my house and vehicles not smelling like an ashtray. I'm sure a lot of other people can attest to this too, but having a big collection of gear is pretty cool, too. I figured there would come a time when I'd cut back on spending, but it seems like with the selection of vape stuff out there today, just makes me want more. It's like it never ends.
Whats your favourite part of vaping?
I eventually went ahead and bought the whole caboodle that SXK makes. Took me a while to get there. I have to say the whole Billet box idea never really exited me. It all somehow suddenly changed recently. Now i'm thinking this will be just the thing for me. This is what I bought..
The Billet box standard kit...
The exocet...
The vapeshell...
The insider...
The boxxer tank
A spare boro tank...
I'm eagerly wanting some comments on how people find these as there isn't many recent threads about it here.
Any comments very much appreciated. Thanks.
I joined ECF back in August of 2017. I was sixty-five years old and had been smoking 25-30 cigarettes a day for 40+ years. I began vaping at the same time win the hope I could at least cut down. I dual used for months, continually cutting back on cigarettes. I smoked my last cigarette on May 11, 2018 - I am coming up on my three year anniversary. When I began, I vaped 24mg nicotine. Now I alternate between 3mg and zero nic.
Given how incredibly positive vaping has been for me, I am in shock at recent events. I was down to two working mods. I have ordered four mods, some tanks and a bunch of coils. I am still able to buy some eliquids where I live - but many of my favorites from Halo have been discontinued. I still have some outstanding hardware orders that I hope get delivered.
The treatment of vaping in the media has been a one sided disgrace, and propaganda works. Over the years when I have mentioned to people that I quit by vaping, they respond, ‘so you quit smoking by picking up a habit that is even more dangerous’.
I am set for at least a year. Fortunately I have kicked my addiction to nicotine - I recently vaped zero nic for a month. If I was just starting out, it would truly be panic time, and I would go back to cigarettes for sure. I suspect that many will do just that. Happy I started when I did.
Hello,
I just purchased a billet box, I have had my eyes on it for a little while...I was wondering if you guys could direct me towards some of the better accessories made by the various companies out there. I am looking for an RBA adapter, or any "must have" accessory even if it uses coilheads. Thank you for your help as the accessory world is somewhat sporatic and all over the place for the Billet Box.
Just got back from my local vape shop, i still ask questions 6 months into vaping. Not too mention they have various gear you can try out. So was curious what various box mods vape like compared to my Vamo 5 Nautilus/ Alantis sub ohm CF sub setups. Also got a ZNA 50 watt APV mod which i don't use much as it does drain the batteries really fast. I tend to use the ZNA 50 when my CF is on charge. I been vaping a lot on my Nautilus Vamo 5 set up a lot recently due to it being a lot kinder on my juice. Sub ohm vaping does love drinking juice like anything.
So my visit to the vape shop as made me curious about box mods in general as there some nice small compact ones out there. Was looking at box mods that can go up to 80 watts.
If and when i take the plunge as i'm just rolling it around in my mind at the moment. I'm not keen on the dripper's tanks so i would most be thinking about a box mod that i could attach a sub ohm tank on and one you could charge on it's own.
Any recommendations anyone ?
PS i love the new look of the forums! a major improvement.
Hey guys and gals!! I've been a member here for a long time but I ended up going back to analogs for a while but now I'm back and very glad to see how the vaping community has grown so much.
When I left, RDAs were just getting popular but most rebuildable fans used genesis attys and hybrids. The community was no where near where it is today!
My brother just gave me a Sigelei 100w and a couple panasonic 18650's to get me off analogs and I dusted off my Opus D (DNA20). Also, just got a Kanger Subtank Nano in the mail.
I'm amazed, actually. When I went back to analogs the newest tank out was the protank 2 (I think). I'm glad to see how far we, as a community, have come.
I'm ordering supplies to start a custom Mod build so keep an eye out in the modders forum!!
Vape on!
Tanks
Posting a picture of my set up for today got me thinking as it featured my oldest original well used, worn, scratched and faded iStick 30w which has served me so well and has far outlived its projected lifespan.
A lot changed for me back in October 2015 - my grown up daughter and her husband had switched to vaping as they couldn’t smoke even in the grounds at work and had taken to vaping.
They liked it and gave me an e-pipe, tobacco flavoured vape liquids, a couple of 18350 batteries for it and a Nitecore Charger.
I thanked them, said I’d give it a try - with my fingers crossed and the thought in my mind, “Aye that’ll be right, I’ll stick it in the drawer and phone you in a few weeks saying it broke and I’m really sad about it.”
A week later my conscience got the better of me and I tried it on a Friday morning ( the 17th of October ), was amazed that I got through a day on it without a craving, thought I’d try it over the weekend, did, and have never smoked in the four years plus since. Amazing since I had smoked for more than 50 years previous to that.
I took the e-pipe to Spain with me for the Winter and while there bought a couple of the old style Ego batteries and plastic tanks with their trailing glass fiber wicks “just in case.”
The 18350s need constant charging, the juice soon destroyed the threads of the pipe’s plastic tank and the back up devices gurgled badly and so I went down to Fuengirola where there was a big vape shop and asked could they recommend a better tank - they suggested a Nautilus Mini and when I asked about a battery for it ( I didn’t know they were actually called “Mods” then) they gave me an iStick 30w … and the rest is history.
I joined this Forum about five weeks after I switched to vaping. In those days MTL was THE thing, the setup I’d bought was “flavour of the month” along with the GS Air Tank and one by Kanger. I learned a lot on ECF in a very short time, and I’ll always be grateful for that.
I tend to be a bit of a stick in the mud when I find something I like and my motto tends to be “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!” I’ve experimented with mechs, squonkers, drippers, and coil building over the years but always come back to my old faithful Nautis and iSticks - simply because for me they work and they work well.
Having found kits that worked, I dropped out of the Forum for a few years until in Spain over the Winter gone I thought my Nautis were failing me or giving up the ghost ( in actual fact as I discovered when I got back to the UK I had had a batch of really really bad coils ) and started reading ECF again and found that the new best thing for MTL was the Zenith, so I gave it a whirl.
I was slow to take to the Zenith I have to admit - while it made my batteries last longer for some reason and was super easy to refill on the go, at first it vaped too dry for me, seemed too airy and the drip tip didn’t initially suit me at all but I persevered with it ( them) and now keep a set of seven for use outdoors or for when travelling or for when I simply feel like a change.
Here’s the Old Soldier!
Anyone else still using old kit?
After six or seven years I am back where I started. Back to my mechanical mods, Rocket and Kayfun rebuildables (have about 12 of each) with the only changes being changed over to nic salts in them. Wife vaping eco's and Vision spinners now when we go out. Have coils coming out my ying yang that I rebuilt years ago. Used to love my mechanical with kayfun in my tool bag with a 4 inch curved drip tip. Would have it sitting by a furnace or fireplace and customers would always ask me what the torch is for. LOL We will see all this old school leads to this time. CHEERS!
Yup. I got me a caliburn. I cannot belieive the flavour and warmth of vapour with the 1.2 ohm coils. I gave my Coolfire 4 TC100 away to a friend and both my cleito tanks.
12mg nic salts, 50pg/50vg and amazing.
My set up has gone from big to tiny and the salts are so satisfying compared to normal eliquid that I don't need to DL anymore.
Amazed at the performance from these tiny modern pod devices better than a nautilus mini by miles.
