Alright guys, so I'm fairly new to building. Actually, I've never done it!
After reviewing a subtank mini about two weeks ago, I am loving everything about it. The flavor, the vapor, the compacity! Everything.
So after watching rip trippers video of building on the rba I noticed he had to move the wick away from the channels so the juice can properly be wicked into the chamber.
On one of the comments, a guy said he actually drilled a hole into the side of the cap that goes over the coil to insure that he gets no dry hits.
What's everyone's take on this? Is it really necessary to do? I'm really worried about getting dry hits.
What's a safe way to do this? If it's needed at all!
Hey all.
So I've been vaping since January. I started out on a kanger ego and an aspire k1. Since then I've gone through aspire cf batteries, and finally made my way to my current set up. An mvp 3.0 or istick50w with my subtank mini.
At first using the stock occ coils with the subtank, I decided to buy some wire and cotton and here I am. Been building my own coils using the RBA section and loving it. I wick it properly and never get a dry hit, going anywhere from 18-25 watts, which is my preferred settings.
Now, it's only my preferred settings because I can't seem to go any higher. On either device. I get dry hits like crazy despite pancake wicking which I've specifically done to prevent said dry hits. I always have heard that it can possibly taste better the hotter it gets. And I don't mind a hot vape. But it won't let me try!
I'm well saturated, well wicked, and my juice can be anywhere form 50/50 to 70/30pg. I can do quick pulls on fully open, and slower toots on the middle setting on the subtank. I just can't go any higher than 25watts and I don't know why!
And that's not for just the coils I built. It's for the stock occ .5 ohm coil as well. And like I said all my cotton is beyond well saturated. Any help?
Just bought the Kangertech Subtank..... Was told I couldn't use my Max VG juice and I needed to buy some of their lower VG juice. I told the guy no thank you, I know what i'm doing and I can make it wick the Max VG.
Needless to say I got home, the STOCK OCC coil, .5 ohm, wicks my Max VG perfectly fine, even with chain vaping.
I ripped the pre-made coil out of the 1.2 ohm OCC head, and built my own .6 ohm coil in it, wicked it with Organic Cotton (Not KGD or Bacon, Just organic cotton from Walgreens) and it wicks perfectly fine with my Max VG.
I built a single coil .7 ohm spaced coil, wicked it with the double tails on each side, cut off to where it touches the deck, but not touching the threads, put the chimney cap on, and made sure the juice channel was free of blockage, and it wicks perfect with the Max VG.
No leaks, no dry hits, running each OCC head at 30 watts, and the RBA deck at 35 watts.
This is the original Subtank, 6ml for OCC and 4.2 for RBA, (NOT THE NEW 7.0mL version).
So let me hear it.... What have you guys noticed or seen about the wicking ideas, why has yours not worked?
WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE SAY YOU CANT USE MAX VG ON RTA's, especially on the Kanger Subtank????
I am running my Kanger Subtank mini rba deck on .9 ohm (spaced 4 wrap 28awg IIRC) at 13 watts and it is cloudy and flavorful. The OCCs were fine but I prefer the rba I think (even though I'm still a bit of a build novice). Many others seem to run it at 25+ watts and lower resistance. I had it at .5 Ω and ~19 watts was good, had dry hits above 23 watts. Now have dry hits above 15 watts at .9 Ω. I'm still playing around, but this current build/wattage is working awesome.
Other important factors:
Tobacco and vanilla DIY juice
4mg
50/50 PG/VG
Organic cotton, standard wick
Only had Subtank for 3 weeks
Coming from BCC clearos
Been vaping for 6 years
Used to be mouth-to-lung, doing a lot of direct lung but still switching back sometimes
What's your style with the Subtank? How are you running it? What's your wick-style? Dry hits? Wattage? Ω?
So I got a subtank mini after hearing a lot of good things the stock coils are amazing but I can't seem to get the rba to work properly I've tried everything I can think of and it just doesn't wick properly I always have to auto drip covering the air hole and puffing on it a little and even then it doesn't taste right can someone help. I hope I have this in the right forum

I've searched the forums and really couldn't find anything spot on with the problem I'm having, but if there is something I missed please forgive me. Anyways Ive been vaping for about 2 months now. I've had no problems with coughing and not being able to Vape up to now. I was using an Aspire Nautilis mini, and I decided to get a Kangertech sub tank mini. This is where the problems have begun. I'm coughing like crazy with this thing. I've done mouth to lung hits, let the it sit in my mouth before inhaling and still cough like crazy and it's only with this subtank I'm now using. I was using the 0.5 ohm coil that was on the unit. I switched to the 1.5 to see if that helped and it didn't. I've adjusted air flow, played with wattages and voltages and really no help. Is there a reason this is happening? What would be the cause of me having a coughing fit only when using this subtank? By the way I'm using a 50/59 mix of e juice.
All of the sudden I wake up today and notice my 510 threading on my sigelei 50w box mod is jacked up. I cleaned the threads on my subtank mini and on my sigelei mod. I then tried screwing it onto my mod and now no matter what I try , there's a gap between the top of the mod and the bottom of the subtank (it's not screwing down all the way and has about a 3mm gap, hence now it won't fire...
I screwed my subtank onto my ileaf 30w and screws in flawlessly, so it's the sigelei threads ...
but I did pay a lot for my sigelei and prefer its hits , I dunno, I usually Vape about 16W on my sigelei And not sure how that translates over to what wattage I should run the eleaf at ?
Also, I just noticed that my spare RDAs will still screw onto my sigelei well..I'm so confused what's up !!!!
Two issues I wanted to fix. The first is the battery run time using the low ohm coils. Second is when the e-liquid gets to the top of the sub ohm coil housing in the Kangertech I've noticed a lot of dry hits when heavy vaping, ( I like a higher VG juice. ) I would find myself closing the air intakes and sucking hard to get the wick saturated, ( a real pain in the ***. )
NOTE: I like an airy hit and run the air intake ports full open.
So here's what I did.
I've drilled the wick holes out to 3.5mm in the Kangertech coil housing. Then built a 1.1 ohm coil with 4 strands of 32ga. kanthal, ( twisted together first ), 5 wraps around a 3.47mm screwdriver. The coil was very springy to work with but got a bit stiffer after torching t closed to 1/4" width using adjustable tweezers. I used regular ball cotton for the wick in this experiment. The coil came in at 1.1 ohm.
Primed the wick and filled tank with a little bit of juice, just below the top of the coil housing.
All I can say is WOW. The first 10 hits taste a bit crappy but after the break in, WOW.
Taste and vapor production are great. There's a bit of crackle but no pops. Crackle I don't mind, Pops I mind. The ClouporT8 counted 75 hits and now the e-juice level is just above the wicking ports by a hair and still working great with full open air intake ports.
I will add post after I've used this set up for awhile.
Curious what other think!

Still semi new to vaping and have had my subtank mini for around a month and I have seen some unique builds lol, something that interests me and caught my attention is the vertical coil and to have the wicking around the coil instead of going through it. Has anyone tried this in the subtank mini? Pros/con's?thanks so much
Hi all,
I've been vaping for around 9 months, and I'm new to this forum (as you can see on the left haha.) Anyways, due to recent money issues, I've had to ditch my Atlantis 2 and go to a Subtank Mini. I enjoy it a lot, except for one issue...too many dry hits!! Especially when I'm using it at 30 watts on a box. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this can be fixed or minimized?
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
Does anyone know why with the original Subtank mini the coils that came with it were
a .05 ohm coil and a 1.2 ohm coil i have noticed with the new subtank it comes with a .05 ohm coil and instead of the 1.2 ohm coil it comes with a 1.5 ohm coil
does anyone know the reason for this
thank you
