I found this semi-old spool of kanthal in my drawer that was unopened, I threw out the packaging so I don't remember what it the company was but it was something along the lines of "Tuff #24 galvanized kanthal resistance wire" but I built a couple of coils and they all short, I've tried it on 3 diff attys and still shorts, I made sure its not touching any other metal or anything. It was a dirty but i washed it with soap and water and its not grimy or greasy from machine oil but parts of it aren't shiny like wire is supposed to be they're gray-blackish. Is that causing the problem.
I never used anything but Kanthal and Nichrome wire to build my coils.
All things being 100% equal (wire gauge, coil type, coil diameter, ohms, etc) do SS coils require more power to run to get the same vapor as the exact same coil/resistance made from Kanthal or Nichrome wire?
Just a little warning to all who have purchased the Lemo 2- Do not use the wire included in the box.
I was a little worried when i was using the stock coil and noticed it had been turning a green color after a few days of use, not sure if this is the case with all Lemo 2's, but if you notice your wire is turning greenish, just throw it out and replace it. I don't believe this is kanthal, it could possibly be nichrome, but it's properties are not matching up with those of kanthal. My worries were confirmed when I decided to put a parallel 5 wrap coil on my rda with that wire because of my lack of other 24 gauge... Well today when I took out my cotton and dry burned the coil a little to rid it of excess juice, the coil actually deformed and somewhat melted on my rda . I don't know what kind of metal this is, but I'm positive it is not kanthal, this has never happened to me with kanthal, and this wire seems to be of a lower resistance than kanthal. Anyway, just wanted to let ya'll know to be careful with that wire, or just throw it out altogether. Otherwise, the Lemo 2 is a fantastic tank
Hey all, I was just wondering, I've seen a few people talk about using A1 kanthal? Im not too sure what im using, but i know its 24guage kanthal. If im just making .2-.8 ohm builds, on a stingray x and I also have a voltage regulated box mod. whats the safest/best wire to use?
I am looking at buying a large ammount of kanthal from lighting vapes. They told me it was China wire but higher quality then most China wire (whatever that means) and assured me it was A1. I am wondering, anyone use lighting vapes specifically. Would go through Temco but the shipping is crazy pricey on E Bay to Canada and way to long otherwise. Lighting Vapes I am looking at 1450ft of varying gauges for 106$ shipped, wire for life-hopefully literally lol, thats a lot a wire. So, is it as good as Temco wire? I really hope it is and doesnt taste disgusting or whatever seeing as I am getting 1000ft of my primary 24/26g and 450ft of 22, 28, 30 and ribbon haha.
Hi guys,
Is it really normal for an atomizer to get hot especially when using dual coils?
I just created a dual coil a couple of minutes ago using 24 gauge kanthal wire, 10 wraps each on a 2.4mm precision screw driver. My meter shows that the resistance is at 0.4 ohms, being curious and all since this is the first time that I made a dual coil, i decided to test it out.
Got some good flavor and vapor, though the vapor is warmer than I would want it to be ( I prefer cold vapor)
After taking a couple of 5 secs drag, I notice that my atomizer became hot, not warm, but hot. Is this something that I should be concerned about? I am doing something wrong or have I done something wrong when creating my coils?
Please help.
Here are some pictures of my device and atomizer. ( Philbox wood mod running on 2 pcs of AWT 18650 2600mah battery, my atty is Haze by vapehead origins)
Whats current favorites theses days?
My last and current device is a sxk dna60 billet box with exocet bridge. 3 wraps of 32/28g kanthal "clapton" wire for 0.85~ resistance and use it unregulated/mech "style".
Only vape pure 60/40 pg/vg mix with 1% nicotine, no flavor. Never used salts or care to learn about them/use because im content where I am.
I just picked up a Dark Horse Clone by Tobeco yesterday. I washed all the machine oil out, set it all up using kanthal and organic cotton, and it vapes great. The only problem is I literally get zero flavor AT ALL using it. Could it be that I am using to little cotton? I used to put a crap ton into my IGO-W (drilled airholes for more airflow). The same juices that used to taste so wonderful taste like nothing at all.
I am using dual 7-wrap micro coils with 26g Kanthal reading at 0.41ohms. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to get more flavor out of this bad boy. I have experimented with using different airflow amounts all to no avail. Any feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Tyler
I've been messing with my mech mod, got it working ok. No danger. I also found some of my last 22ga kanthal and made me a pair of my all time favorite coils. 7 wraps on 3mm. Just plain Jane, round wire coils that for me, have performed famously every time I make them. I also got myself a new toy, voopoo drag 2 platinum. Same chip as the original drag I think and since I gave that one away last year, I'd forgotten how responsive that chip is. Quite nice. And I still have the switcher. So now, all at once it seems, i have 3 working mods and feeling pleased with myself. Playing mix and match too, put my dead rabbit on the tsunami mech and using the tsunami rda on the switcher. That's the one I just put the 22ga kanthal on and yeppers its kickin'. Just gotta work the new cotton taste out of it. Maybe I'll pop an ant down in there for old times sake. Or not. The memory is still fresh. And another thing, just a couple months away will mark 3 yrs in my vaping journey. I want to thank all my friends on the forum here who have helped me along the way, answered questions, and generally put up with me all this time now. And I truly believe I'd rather vape an ant as to smoke a cigarette. Not that i actually will again, the ant was kinda gross really when I think about it. But all in all, yep. Vape on.
I've had this Vamo v4 for 3 months and it's been great until yesterday. It says "short" on the display.
I have tried several different coils, I have cleaned it really well. Is the pin not touching, or do I need to reset it somehow?
It will give me 2 or 3 vapes and then say short until I try a new coil, then it does it again.
HELP! I am stuck with an old ego until I can fix this problem and I want my nice clouds back
Thank you for any ideas.
I had 2 Evod coils rebuilt as SC with Silica and 32 Kanthal that never saw more than 4v.
I got a Horrible taste in a tank and my assumption was the Silica scorched even though it's not supposed to.
I cleaned and dry fired them, the Silica looked clean but they tasted nasty all over again.
When I rebuilt them then, I saw the light scorching on the insulator, just lines burned into it from the coil legs. I washed all the scorch off and rebuilt them. Haven't used them yet, I hope they'll be ok.
[EDIT] The coils are around 2 ohm and I tested them with a multi meter when rebuilding.
